Report on 'A Year in Ferntree Gully'

On 15 May 2013 I attended the Mountain District Learning Centre's AGM.

I was pleased to see the report by Anne Boyd, Project Co-ordinator of A YEAR IN FERNTREE GULLY in the MDLC 39th Annual Report 2012.

I would like to thank Anne Boyd in particular, the Mountain District Learning Centre, Knox City Council and everyone involved in this wonderful project.

The Cottage at No. 8 The Avenue, home of the community paper Ferntree Gully News, has also become a gallery. I am delighted that my 'Year in Ferntree Gully' photographs have found a permanent home in the Cottage.


The October Newsletter of the Mountain District Learning Centre (publisher of the Ferntree Gully News) reports:

"Recently we hung high on the walls most of the photographs of Barbara Oehring's beautiful 'Year in FTG' exhibition. As we did so the rooms took on a new dimension. The power of the photos began to make themselves felt. Now our gallery rooms can be a place for delight, reflection, history, all taking inspiration from the pictures on the walls."

'A Year in Ferntree Gully' at The Hut Gallery

I was invited to show A YEAR IN FERNTREE GULLY at The Hut Gallery in Ferntree Gully on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September 2012.

The Hut Gallery is the home of the Ferntree Gully Arts Society established in 1944.

History tells us that local potter Allan Lowe sent a letter to the Secretary of the Ferntree Gully Shire suggesting that an Art Exhibition be held to "develop the cultural and appreciative level of our residents and (the money raised) donated to the Red Cross to aid fighting men".

 

From a successful exhibition, including works on loan by such luminaries of Australian art as Arthur Streeton, Louis Buvelot, Phillips Fox, Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Julian Ashton, William Ricketts, Merrick Boyd and Albert Namatjira as well as works by local lesser known artists, the germ of a society was formed, the result of which is still going strong today.

A Year in Ferntree Gully - Review by Bob Young

I'm intending to visit this exhibition at the Ferntree Gully Library, before it closes on 19th May. My Exhibition 'A Year in Ferntree Gully'

Come and celebrate the incredible photographs by Barbara Oehring which she has taken in and around Ferntree Gully in the last few years. There will be 36 stunning photographs of scenery, building and festival.

Relax with a glass of wine or tea and coffee and wander around the display. Councillor Sue McMillan will open the exhibition which will be in the library for four weeks until Saturday 19 May 2012.

Photography Focus 'A Year in Ferntree Gully'

Photography Focus - Barbara Oehring - a Year in Ferntree Gully

Barbara Oehring is a local photographer who strives to create images that have a sense of mystery. Her photographs have been used for various print publications,including our local Ferntree Gully News, websites and in electronic format for educational purposes.

Her Photographic Exhibition, 'A year in Ferntree Gully' is being held at the Ferntree Gully Library from Monday 23 April to Friday 18 May 2012. Barbara will be talking about this exhibition and how she chose her photographs for display.

A Year in Ferntree Gully

I am delighted that the Mountain District Learning Centre has received a Knox Community Development Grant for an exhibition of my photographs.

The Ferntree Gully News, Page 17, Issue 14 - December 2011:

"A Year in Ferntree Gully"
The grant will be used to hold an exhibition of photographs by Barbara Oehring. The photos will show people, places, events in FTG through four seasons. This will provide inspiration for creative writing workshops for recording stories of experiences and memories of living in the Gully.
The exhibition will be launched in the FTG library in April 2012. After this it will become a mobile display for sessions at MDLC and for other venues and groups.
Barbara Oehring's stunning photographs have been delighting readers of Gully News since its inception. Making a selection of these and many others for the exhibition will be challenging but worthwhile. It is hoped to publish stories in the newspaper."
