Rod Moss: Whitegate - Where Art and Life Collide

The exhibition Rod Moss: Whitegate - Where Art and Life Collide opened at Burrinja Gallery on Sunday 30 March 2014. I was impressed by Rod's paintings which are a result of his unique and close relationship with the Arrernte community of Whitegate, a town camp on the outskirts of Alice Springs. The artist has been a resident of Alice Springs since 1984.

Isabel Foster Retrospect - The Challenge of Colour

The Challenge of Colour exhibition runs at Burrinja Gallery in Upwey from 14 December 2013 to 16 March 2014.

I was delighted to accept an invitation to the official opening of Isabel Foster's retrospective exhibition at Burrinja Gallery on 14 December 2013.

The exhibition was opened by long-time supporter Neil McLeod of Neil McLeod Fine Arts Studio and Burrinja exhibition curator JD Mittmann.

Isabel Foster has a passion for colour. Over her 45 year career she has created a body of work which shows her lifetime's devotion to needle and thread. Her textiles are bright, bold and bizarre.

The exhibition features embroideries, weavings, tapestries, patchworks and 'crazy' knitting.

Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre by Peter Elfes

In a Victoria exclusive the aerial photography exhibition KATI THANDA by Peter Elfes can be seen at Burrinja Gallery in Upwey from 18 May - 11 August 2013.

This is the first exhibition of the artist's complete works KATI THANDA. It chronicles his five year journey to the heart of the desert: Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre and surrounding deserts.

Peter's low level aerial images capture the beauty and remoteness of this environmentally and culturally significant part of Australia.

On 22 May 2012 the Arabunna people were awarded native title to 62,000 square kilometres of South Australia including Kati Thanda which up until December 2012 had been known as Lake Eyre, named after Edward John Eyre, who was the first European to discover this inland sea in 1840.

The exhibition was opened on Friday 17 May 2013.

Burrinja's executive officer Ross Farnell introduces the artist with curator JD Mittmann looking on.
